The Art Director develops and executes multiple concepts and designs for multichannel marketing campaigns with an emphasis on direct mail, email and digital display banners.
We are looking for a candidate to work closely with client teams to deliver direct marketing materials that meet client expectations.

Art Director, Direct Marketing Creative
Betty Agency is looking for an Art Director who loves driving results for clients! We seek someone who is passionate about direct marketing and loves working on direct mail, email, digital banners and landing pages. You seek to start with a concept behind the work that will connect with the audience through an insight. Then you get into the weeds and seek to optimize creative to drive a strong response. You’re familiar with best practices in the direct marketing category, while always seeking to grow and learn. You are skilled at partnering with Copywriters and Creative Directors to brainstorm but also comfortable working independently. You are comfortable presenting your ideas with enthusiasm. We’re looking for someone who is hungry to evolve and improve—both the work and themself.
In addition to designing first-round concepts, you will also have the responsibility of building versions of the creative selected by clients, and must be comfortable building complex files for the print production team that involves multiple layers of variable content. Ideally, you are familiar with the practices of keylining and getting files ready for press.
You also understand the challenges of working remotely, and to facilitate that you’re a proactive communicator. You are an enthusiastic partner to everyone on the team and bring a culture of positivity and a collaborative attitude.
Things You’ll Do
- Work within brand guidelines while bringing out the most engaging treatments
- Brainstorm with team members to explore and develop strategic territories and concepts
- Design direct mail packages including letters, self-mailers and postcards
- Design emails, landing pages and digital display banners—both static and animated
- Effectively collaborate and partner with Copywriters to develop creative and provide feedback to Copywriters to elevate the work
- Understand our clients’ corporate brands and properly adhere to guidelines/requirements
- Present professionally to internal and external teams
- Build PowerPoint presentations for client presentations
- Effectively communicate design solutions at both a business and creative level
- Present your ideas and designs internally and occasionally to clients
- Research products/services to inform design ideas
- Recommend ways to improve the efficiency of the team
- Share engaging Creative work that you come across for inspiration
- Act as an enthusiastic collaborator and partner, and bring positive culture to the team
- Engage each assignment with curiosity and energy
- Understand how vital communication is when being part of a remote team
- Promote continual creative improvement and actively contribute to a culture of innovation, excellence and accountability
- Demonstrate the ability to juggle multiple projects to meet deadlines
- Ensure continual learning via Accelerated Marketing Insights testing of content and design; making ongoing optimizations based on data-driven insights
Things We Need
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and/or Design
- Experience: 5+ years’ experience in advertising or design role
- Skills:
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge; Microsoft Office, Acrobat Pro
- Possesses proactive, appropriate and timely communication skills across department, agency and clients
- Gathers and analyzes information, identifies goals, explores and selects solutions, implements an action plan and evaluates results
- Possesses superior photo editing and photo manipulation skills; illustration or photography-based skills are nice to have
- Significant experience developing creative in the direct marketing category
- Experience getting print files ready for press and digital files ready for development
- Portfolio of previous work that displays an ability to turn an idea into a strong and concise marketing communication
