2D Animator – DopaGE is building an online learning portal that provides training and resources for students to prevent, recognize, and respond to overdoses. The DopaGE Overdose Prevention Portal includes in-house animated lessons to maximize student engagement with, and retention of, the learning material.

Role Description : 2D Animator

This is a remote contract role for a 2D Animator at DopaGE. This role is intended to grow into a full-time role following the success of the initial project-based, 3-month contract.

The 2D Animator will be responsible for tasks related to creative development, character design, storyboarding, rough animation, color animation, background design, and video editing. Your day-to-day activities require you to work independently and manage your time effectively such that you can support the Creative Team in maintaining the production schedule by completing tasks as assigned in 2x/week Creative Stand Up Meetings.

As 2D Animator, you will report directly to the Animation Director as you work primarily with the Creative Team and secondarily with the Engineering Team. If you are located in either of DopaGE’s HQ cities, there will be opportunities for your role to be hybrid in nature.

Qualifications : 2D Animator

  • BFA Animation or equivalent degree
  • 2+ years experience as a professional 2D Animator or equivalent role
  • Strong Portfolio: A diverse portfolio showcasing your creativity in 2D animation development, particularly work that conveys technical, complex, and/or sensitive topics.
  • Proficiency in 2D Animation and Video Editing Software: Strong proficiency in softwares Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and similar tools.
  • Character Design and Storyboarding: Ability to design characters, scenes, and narrative structures that align with DopaGE’s educational mission.
  • Strong Visual Storytelling: Experience conveying complex topics through simple, engaging, and emotionally resonant animations.
  • Attention to Detail: Precise execution of frame-by-frame animation and movement that enhances clarity and educational value.
  • Flexible Mindset: Openness to feedback and ability to effectively implement revisions and new ideas in the fast-paced startup environment.
  • Proactive Communication: Clear verbal, written, and sketched communication of animation choices, feedback documentation, and maintenance of company operations policies.
  • Adaptive Style: Flexibility to shift between a variety of unique animation styles that may resonate with different target audiences including teens, college students, healthcare professionals, etc.
  • Cross Collaboration: Ability to work closely with screenwriters, medical experts, and software engineers to bring educational content to life.
  • Agile Workflow: Ability to quickly iterate and adapt as project requirements evolve within a shifting startup pipeline.
  • Experience in Educational Animation: Applicants with prior experience animating for health education, social issues, or e-learning will be prioritized. At DopaGE, you will work on medically-informed animations.
